Asked Questions

Got questions? We’re here to help.

Whether you’re enrolling your child for the first time or returning for another term, we know there’s a lot to consider. Below are answers to some of the most common questions parents ask us.

At this age, we recommend our “Let’s Explore Music” group class instead of one-on-one lessons. It’s designed especially for 5-year-olds, introducing basic music skills and a variety of instruments in a fun, hands-on way. Classes start in Term 1 and Term 3 and run for two terms. Most children aren’t quite ready for private lessons until they’re a bit older and have developed more focus and coordination.
No worries, we have a large stock of hire instruments available for enrolled students at special rates. Guitars, violins, keyboards, drums, trumpets, saxophones, and more. Just check with us to see what’s currently available.
To guarantee a place, we ask that you enrol first. If your child isn’t enjoying the class after a couple of sessions, just reach out. We’re happy to talk through refund options. Group classes start in Term 1 and Term 3, and run for two terms.
Some teachers may offer a complimentary trial, but most require a term commitment to get started. You’re always welcome to ask, and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
All of our in-person lessons happen in Queenstown, and our subsidies are only for students enrolled locally. However, we do offer live online classes for guitar and bass, which might be a great fit if you’re further afield.
Absolutely! Many of our teachers work with adult learners. You’re welcome to book private lessons at Te Atamira or another agreed location. (Subsidies and performance opportunities are just for children.)
This is our most requested time, and it’s usually reserved for returning students. If your child is just starting out, we recommend choosing a different time for now and your teacher may be able to move them to 3:30pm when a slot opens.
Once you send us a lesson request, we’ll reach out to the teacher and come back to you within a few days with available time slots. Each teacher sets their own schedule.
If your family is facing financial hardship, we offer a $200 subsidy per term for one-on-one lessons. Just get in touch with us confidentially to request the application form. (Please note: group classes aren’t subsidised.)
Group classes are around $100 per term. One-on-one lessons range from $40 to $60 per 30-minute session, set by each teacher.
To apply, reach out to us directly and request the subsidy application form. The process is simple, and all information is kept confidential. Once submitted, we’ll assess your application and let you know if funding is available.
Our Emerging Talent Scholarship is a full-coverage award for promising young musicians. To be eligible, you must be nominated by a teacher. If selected, you’ll receive 100% subsidised weekly lessons for your chosen instrument. Only three scholarships are awarded each year. Shortlisted students will be invited for an in-person conversation about their musical goals. Please get in touch to find out submission dates.
